Description
A classic alpine tour right in the heart of the Kalkkögel, often called the “Dolomites of North Tyrol” for good reason. This route offers unforgettable experiences in a wild and beautiful mountain setting — and it’s only 30 minutes from Innsbruck! You’ll climb an impressive ridge along the Schlicker Manndln, finishing at the Schlicker Seespitze (2,804 m), the highest peak in the Kalkkögel. The ridge drops steeply on both sides and offers varied climbing over towers, through chimneys, and along ledges — all up to UIAA grade IV on the typical Kalkkögel limestone.
This is an absolute classic of the Kalkkögel! The Adolf-Pirchler Hut, one of the most beautiful and authentic mountain huts around, is the perfect spot to stop for a break. You can flip through the “tour book” here and marvel at the bold climbing routes—both famous and lesser-known names alike.
The Climb
The starting point is the Kemater Alm early in the morning. From there, the approach leads past the Adolf Pirchler Hut to the Seejöchl, heading toward the Schlicker Schartl where the route starts. Alternatively, you can shorten the approach by spending the night at the Adolf Pirchler Hut!
The climbing starts right away with one of the crux sections—a small overhang rated at IV+! Once you’ve mastered this, the route eases up as you make your way between the towers of the Schlicker Manndln, interrupted by a short rappel before reaching the summit of the Schlicker Seespitze. From here, you get a stunning view of the Kalkkögel and the Stubai Alps. After a good rest at the top, the descent follows the normal route back to the Adolf-Pirchler Hut, where we can unwind with a cool drink and reflect on the day.
