Zuckerhüttel – Roof Top of Stubai Alps

Description

The Zuckerhütl (3,507 m), the highest peak in the Stubai Alps, is a majestic summit with a moderate level of challenge. Its elegant snow pyramid towers high above the Sulzenauferner and, with the help of the cable car, can be reached comfortably in a single day. From the summit, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views stretching all the way to the Dolomites and deep into the Central Alps. This tour is technically of moderate difficulty and is the perfect introduction to the world of 3,000-meter peaks and glacier mountaineering.
If, due to melting in late summer, the main summit is no longer accessible, the western summit — only seven meters lower and marked by a summit Madonna — offers an absolutely equivalent alternative without any rockfall risk!

The Climb

Meeting point is early in the morning at the valley station of the Stubai Glacier cable car. We take the cable car up, then follow an easy trail (maximum grade I+) to the Pfaffenjoch, where we take a short break and rope up. From there, we cross the Sulzenauferner, passing beneath the north face of the Zuckerhütl, and continue to the Pfaffensattel. From there, the route follows a gentle snow ridge to the rocks of the east ridge, which leads to the summit.
In case of significant melting, the western summit is a rockfall-safe alternative, just seven meters lower and offering equally beautiful views. From the Pfaffenjoch, you ascend via the Pfaffenscheid, which features classic mixed high-alpine terrain. An unforgettable experience all the same!
