The Climb

Meeting Point: 1:00 PM at the Lucknerhaus parking lot
We meet in the early afternoon at the Lucknerhaus parking lot in Kals am Großglockner. After a brief equipment check, we start the joint ascent to the Stüdelhütte through the Ködnitztal. The striking summit of the Großglockner is already clearly visible, increasing the anticipation.
At the cozy Stüdelhütte, known for its excellent food, we will spend the evening together and relax.
Ascent approx. 900 meters, 2–3 hours
The next day, we start early and well-fueled for the Großglockner – the breakfast buffet at the Stüdelhütte is legendary! The route leads over the Ködnitzkees glacier and a short via ferrata to the Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte (Adlersruhe), the highest mountain hut in Austria. Then we continue over the “Glocknerleitl” – a roughly 45° steep snow or ice couloir – to the Kleinglockner, and via the summit ridge with exciting and exposed, yet easy climbing (UIAA grade II) to the summit. The views are breathtaking! After a summit break, we descend via the same route back to the valley, where we will end the day with a refreshing drink.
End of tour: approx. 3:00 PM
